Why "New Calling Kids"?

This is Sarah Beaton writing this blog. While it may sound strange that the younger person on the team would kick-off the blogging, it was the younger one on the team that had the "new call" on their heart. When you read the "I" in the blog, know that it is Sarah speaking.

Back in 2020, when the world shut down, I had this impression on my heart that life was going to go in a new direction. God showed me a few things and I knew I needed to obey and do what He was telling me to do. Little did I know that it would involve a door that I had closed, and that God would allow me to reopen, but in a different way.

First, I enrolled to go back to school to do my Masters in Christian Ministry. Fast forward to the years 2022 and 2023, when I needed to set up what God had shown me back in 2020. In 2022, as I labored over the name for what God had shown me, I had a few ideas. But in the deciding factor some of them just did not jell with my Spirit. I had prayed over a particular name for a while. However, when it came to registering the name, the name was taken. I had to go back and think about what I needed to name the adventure God placed on my heart. The original name was numbers, and the numbers had a meaning, so I had to pray about the new name. I ended up changing the numbers back to a "word' name. But I stuck to the theme of numbers holding a meaning. So, I prayed over what the name needed to be.

I knew that what was going on was something new. The number 8 represents the start of something new. I knew that the call was to reach kids. Great so New and Kids were in the name. Around that time, I had been reading in the Bible about Joseph. How he was 30 years old when he was placed in charge in Egypt. I also had been reading in Leviticus and Numbers as well and learned that the Levites could not do any temple work until they turned 30! I did some research on the number 30. The irony was that at the time I was 30. Come to find out that the number 30 stands for calling. Your calling is instrumental in furthering the Kingdom of God.

“God likely choose 30 because it was when a person reached both physical and mental maturity and could therefore handle major responsibilities” (Biblestudy.org). Maturity is interesting because your brain doesn't full develop until you are about 25, so the age of 30 is understandably a good age to fully walk into something.

The call is to reach children and families for restoration. The major way one reaches children is to reach their parents. Our goal is to have restoration in a family’s life. The family was the first church in the Bible. God clearly wants a relationship with people, but also wants people to have a relationship with each other.

We see that Jesus started His ministry at 30 years old. So, why can't we do what God has called us to do? I think we think that we are too young or not called enough to do what God has placed on our hearts. In 1 Timothy 4:12 it says, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity” (NIV). As New Calling Kids, we want to be an example in the body of Christ. We look forward to growing with you, encouraging you and impacting you and your family.

Have a nice day… See you soon
