Who’s Your Daddy?

While grief is not a major topic we talk about, I believe that so many of us have lost a parent in our lives. No matter your age when you lost them, you will always miss them. This is Sarah, obviously. In year four, I realized that even though I may not have an earthly father, I have an amazing Heavenly Father, who loves me.

Father’s Day is this month. There are times that I miss my father. Father’s Day is one of the weekends when I miss him the most. But I will say that we have a better father then our earthly fathers. He is Father God!

There are numerous fathers in the Bible. There are Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph (Jesus’ Dad), Zacharias and David. We find different genealogies in the Bible. Each one points us back to Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. In each genealogy we see that fathers are honored. The Bible even compares our earthly father to our Heavenly Father. It shows us that our Heavenly Father has our best interests at heart. In Matthew 7:11 it says,

“So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.” (NLT)

If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! (NIV)

The verse says sinful or evil, both meaning wicked or bad. This verse is saying that the earthly or human father of a child gives good gifts to his kids. Our Heavenly Father is not evil nor sinful, which means His love and gifts are perfect and whole. He wants the best for us, who are His children. In Psalm 103:13, it says,

The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. (NLT)

As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. (BSB)

“The Bible compares our earthly father to our Heavenly Father. It also shows us that our Heavenly Father has our best interest at heart. ”

If our Heavenly Father has our best interests at heart, and He has compassion on us, then we know that He will always be there for us, when we dwell or spend time with Him. While I will never get to spend another Father’s Day with my earthly, human father; I know that my Heavenly Father will always spend time with me, speak to me and allow me to ask any question. Our Heavenly Father is willing to listen whenever we talk. He knows your thoughts and He is able to hear our prayers.

In Psalm 68:5 it says that God is the father to the fatherless.

A father of the fatherless and a judge for the widows, Is God in His holy dwelling. Psalm 68:5 (NASB)

I’ve read that verse a few times and would point those who didn’t have great fathers to that verse. But it came more applicable to me once I lost my dad. I can definitely say that I never wanted to lose my dad at a young age, but I finally understood what God was saying in that verse.

So, as we celebrate this Father’s Day, with or without an earthly father, may you celebrate with your Heavenly Father and give Him the love that He has given you.

Have a nice day… See you soon
