Proverbs 2.0 – Meaningless Life

This is Sarah Beaton writing a blog for the first time in a while. My prayer is that you find the meaning in your life through Christ. That you live in a way that will bring pleasure to Him and draw others to Him.

Ever since I was young my favorite verses were Ecclesiastes 4:9-10. Although at a young age I never really fully knew what those verses meant. I still love those verses, and they are still two of my favorite verses. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says,

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. (NIV)

As I got older, I realized that Ecclesiastes 4:11 and 12 were just as important to understand that the love of God is part of a family unit. Or more importantly a husband-and-wife unit.

Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. (NIV)

Because Ecclesiastes is not the most exciting book in the Bible, we can often miss the importance of wisdom that this book of the Bible can give us. It’s the book that talks about everything being meaningless. It talks about the frustrations and the fulfillment of life. It’s almost like a second book of wisdom and proverbs. It could be seen as Proverbs 2.0.

We later see in Ecclesiastes that even though life can be seen as meaningless and that the day of death is better than the day of birth, we know that the author is letting us know that the fear and wisdom of God is the most important aspect in our lives.

You’re probably thinking “why are you writing a blog about meaningless life” (😜 see what I did there?). Well, life may feel meaningless, but we know that God NEVER intended life to be meaningless. We see in Genesis God created people. We see in 1 Thessalonians 5:23 that we are a Spirit. God is Spirit and God wants to have relationship with us. We see this in Genesis when God walked with Adam and Eve.

“ God is Spirit and God wants to have relationship with us.”

If God is wanting a relationship with us. Then we know that we are not to live in isolation. Hence that is what Ecclesiastes 4:9-11 is talking about. Not to mention that in Ecclesiastes 4:12 it even shows us that when God is part of the two then it is harder to separate. While we may feel as if things in life are meaningless or mundane, we must remember that God is the Author and Perfecter of our faith. We must remember that Ecclesiastes is a book in the Bible that is written by the wisest man in the world, who questioned life and makes us think about the frustrations and the fulfillment in our lives.

So, when you go through your day ask yourself, “How am I cultivating relationships in the life I am living?” What about the relationships in your family? Am I just living a meaningless and mundane life? What are my children seeing? Where do I need to fit my life into God and not fit God into my life?”

Have a nice day… See you soon
