We all know this greeting and from time to time during the course of a year we will wish someone, “Happy Birthday!” We all have a birthday and will receive that greeting. So, what is important about that?
Stepping into our new adventure, I am doing different things. One of them is going more public in my life, but more of that later. The new adventure is under the name “New Calling Kids.org”. And kids are a part of families and everyone in the family has a birthday. Yes, I am stating the obvious.
“New life comes from God, and every person’s life is precious and has purpose. God made each one of us unique, wonderful, and marvelous.”
In my life the people in my family were always especially remembered on their birthdays. I can remember my parents phoning one of their brothers or sisters to greet them for their birthday, as they lived in a different part of South Africa. As a result, when my late husband and I began our family, it was natural for us to do the same. We celebrated the life of each of our children on their birthday, and each of us encouraged our children to celebrate each of our (their parent’s) birthdays on the appropriate date. And dinner out on your birthday was part of how our family celebrated. As our children got older, they would be given the choice of going out to their favorite restaurant for dinner on their birthday. Yes, birthdays were important and were to be celebrated.
New life comes from God, and every person’s life is precious and has purpose. God made each one of us unique, wonderful, and marvelous.
Psalm 139:13-14 New Living Translation
13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
God loves and values us, and birthdays were a unique opportunity to celebrate the life of each one of our family members. And so, we did.
We wanted our children to know how God thought about them and that they were a gift from God to us. We valued each one of our children and as parents we valued each other. Birthdays were an opportunity to celebrate the gift that each one of our children is and maximize the moment making memories.
This is Lucy Beaton, stepping into a new adventure with one of the gifts with whom we were entrusted. And in a few days, I will be celebrating another birthday.
I celebrate you, Sarah Beaton, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
